Adolescents
Different approaches are used to help adolescents (15 and above) who are experiencing emotional difficulties and behavioral problems. Psychotherapy helps children and adolescents by providing emotional support, teaching conflict resolution techniques, assist them in understanding feelings and problems, and suggesting new solutions to existing unresolved issues. They must feel comfortable, safe and understood in sessions. Creating a trusting space makes possible the open expression of their thoughts and feelings.
When indicated, psychotherapy is used in combination with other treatments (medication, behavior management, or working with the patient's school). The length of psychotherapy depends on the complexity and severity of problems involved.
